Ask Choy

My car won't start. Do I need a tow?

Not necessarily. Many no-starts come from the battery, connections, starter, or charging system—and a mobile diagnosis can often tell you whether the car can be helped where it sits.

Likely causes (not a remote diagnosis)

Common contributors include a weak battery, poor cable connections, a failing starter, alternator/charging issues, or other faults. The exact cause needs testing at the vehicle.

When a mobile mechanic can help

If the car is in a safe driveway, lot, or similar location, a mobile mechanic can often test and sometimes repair on-site. See mobile auto repair.

When towing or emergency help is better

If you are in an unsafe roadway position, the vehicle needs a lift or specialty equipment, or on-site repair is not realistic, towing or roadside assistance may be the right move.
